The Wife of Bath is VERY needy and uses 3 out of 5 of her husband's for money and presents. If she had it her way, all of them would have been obedient and rich. So, this song accurately describes 3 of her marriages because The Wife of Bath, is indeed, a gold digger.

Have you read this before - or are you checking a site like SparkNotes for background info? I didn't ask folks to read the Wife of Bath's Prologue, just the Tale. ;-) Although I do love her as a character, she's not super-relevant to what we'll be discussing today!
