Is Sir Artyus Evil?

Why did Sir Artyus get his happy ending after being evil by sending Emare out on a boat with no food, water, or paddle for refusing to marry him? Medieval romances have a reoccurring theme of justice and consequences. Where is his consequence? Did the emperor get his happy ending because he realized that what he did was wrong and tried to go after his daughter to rescue her from being trapped on the boat?
